Free to ME!

Happy Sunday! :) How was your weekend? I love rainy Saturdays so we spent the whole day at home. My kids were totally depressed to be stuck inside, but I was thrilled. It gave me a chance to stay in my pajamas and get some projects done. And then Jimmy and I went out with some of our best friends for a couples game night. To say that it was hilarious is an understatment. Somehow we progressed to Just Dance. If I could share the video on here without someones husband killing me, I would. Just imagine them dancing to Satisfaction and It's Raining Men! :)

Anyway, back to the project....The one I wanted to share today was so much fun.

When we moved into the house, I looked all over the internet for a TV stand for the living room. I didn't really know how I was going to set up the room, so I am not sure what possessed me to buy anything at that point. Needless to say, after looking at the brand new TV stand for about 3 months, I decided it was totally wrong and I really wanted something else to hold the TV. Yes, Jimmy thinks I have lost my mind.

So, when he gave me an ultimatum about spending more money, I decided to start searching craiglist. I love to be able to hide the TV and Wii when we have company, so I REALLY wanted an armoire. OF course I did! I was determined to find something reasonable, and OH DID I EVER!

After searching for a few days, I came across an ad that said "Armoire and Side Table- Great Quality". Sounded good to me but when I opened it up, I was shocked to see "Free! Please come take it!" Um, Yes....I will be right over! :) After completely stalking the seller, and I mean by the time he wrote me back the first time, he had already gotten 2 panic emails from me. I was so excited to hear that he was an older gentlemen who just wanted someone strong to come take the huge piece of furniture out of his house.

So, I enlisted Jimmy (of course) and my brother, Dave. As a side note, Dave and Jimmy are always my movers. They have moved my monsterous treadmill over 10 times...back and forth between houses, college apartments, AND my mothers house. They hate me for this. :) But I know they really LOVE ME!  That following Saturday, they took a little ride to Bel Air to help the poor man move his armoire, AKA Score for me! I knew it would be big, but for FREE, you really have no idea what to expect. When they returned home, here is the monster armoire that they pulled out...

To say that it was a HUGE score is an understatement! I know it isn't perfect, but it was EXACTLY what I wanted! AND, it was in perfect condition and made by Bassett Furniture! This is a heavy sturdy piece of furniture that I can keep forever. BUT....of course, I couldn't leave it alone. It needed my love! :)

So, with paint in hand, I decided to paint it with Annie Sloan's Old White. I just love this color. It's a creamy white and looks great when it is distessed a bit.

After I painted it white, it sat for months just like that. I knew I wanted to add a little more character, but I wasn't sure what. Chevron? Stripes? Mirrors? I just wasn't sure what I wanted to do next but the white was too boring for me.

This Saturday, I decided to finish it and make a decision. I got out the painters tape and went to work. Diamonds it is!

Here is when I was prepping.

And here it is all finished!!!!! :) :)

I think the diamonds added an extra POP and some charm. And I love a hand painted, distressed piece of furniture.

Here are a few more.... (again, I apologize about the quality of pictures....I have already made my birthday request for a new camera!) And, you can see a little more of the detail in the closer shots. After I painted the diamonds, I hand painted a silver line to outline them and give another layer of texture. Wow, I sound so serious! Really, I wasn't completely happy with it until I added that. :)

Not bad for a FREE Armoire, huh? Have you ever painted furniture? I just finished another piece that I will share this week.... Hope you like it!

Don't forget, I would love for you to share the blog with friends! :)
Have a great start to your week,
Heather
